1. Human papillomavirus (HPV) – in most of the cervical cases, the cause is this virus only. There are more than hundred types of Human papillomavirus. Most of them, however, are not dangerous but some can cause mutations in tissues. This can be a big cause of cancer.
2. Conceiving numerously – in ladies conceiving consecutively, the complexities brought alongside conceiving can invite cervical cancer. It has been noted that the rate of cervical cancer doubles in women who have had 7 or more pregnancies.
3. HIV infection – Human Immunodeficiency Virus can weaken the immune system and hence it can bring cervical cancer into our bodies.
4. Smoking – smoking can emerge as one of the reasons for cervical cancer. Tobacco smoke has cancer-causing elements which can harm the lining of cervical tissues.
5. Contraceptive pills –women, who use contraceptive pills for longer duration, are found to be more prone to cervical cancer.
6. Multiple partners and over-active sex life – sex, with numerous partners, can increases the chances of HPV related virus. This can later elevate and become cancer too.
7. Genetic causes – some research have highlighted that women with a family history of cervical cancer have greater chances of developing cervical cancer in their lives.
8. Exposure to harmful chemicals –tetrachloroethene, used in dry-cleaning and metal degreasing, can cause cervical cancer with direct contact. Women associated with these jobs have a greater chance of developing cervical cancer.
9. Poverty –research has shown that women from lower income families are more vulnerable to cervical cancer. Lack of nutrition and hygiene can explain the relation.
10. Contraceptive pills –Diethylstilboestrol is used to prevent miscarriage. It is often linked with cervical cancer. Hence, this medication has been banned in several conditions.
