1. Regular medical check-ups –most cases of cervical cancer emerge from HPV virus which often spreads from intimate intercourse. Regular medical check-ups can diagnose the virus at early stages and hence the gradual growth of the ailment can be curtailed.
2. HPV vaccination – two vaccines for HPV are available. These can be given to young girls (around 12 years) and they are efficient in tackling the growth of the virus.
3. Smoking and alcohol – smoking and drinking can invite cervical cancer. Tobacco smoking and alcohol have cancer-causing elements that damage the cervical linings. Hence, we should avoid these habits in our lives.
4. Precautions in sexual relationships – HPV virus, the main cause for cervical cancer, spreads through intercourse. Using a condom and other precautions can prevent the spread of virus.
5. Stay away from high glycaemic foods – consuming edibles like rice, potato and high refined carbohydrates can increase the glucose level of our body. This can cause not only cervical but other types of cancer as well.
6. Fruits-vegetables and beans – fruits and vegetables with no starch rank low on glycaemic index. They digest gradually and help in maintaining a stable level of glucose in our body.
7. Reducing intake of animal fat –meat and dairy products have fats which consist of arachidonic acid. These acids damage the immune cells that are tasked to restrain the cervical cancer.
8. Omega 3 fatty acids – a balanced intake of omega 3 fatty acid can prevent us from cervical cancer. Fish, flax seedsand walnut are good sources of omega 3 fatty acid.
9. Increase zinc in your diet – zinc is essential for our body to produce SOD and 200 vital enzymes. Research reveals that by reducing SOD free radicals, we can prevent ourselves from cancer.
10. I3C edibles – I3C stands for Indole 3 carbinol. It is detoxifier which is helpful in cervical and other types of cancer as well. Broccoli, cauliflowers are rich in I3C.
